I think that parents need to take precautions in several ways. For one, make sure that their computer is installed with some type of security setting that does not allow the child to go to any sites that are inappropriate. Second, parents and teachers need to communicate to children the benefits as well as the dangers of using the internet so that everyone is on the same page.
Setting up educational dialogue, time guidelines, security settings and meaningful consequences for violation that evolve as the child grows are important. This should be taught at school, but also affirmed at home.

Internet responsibility and awareness are being addressed in the schools, and could be a provocative topic for us as art teachers.
